Interior of Serafina

The arched entrance in red brick replica at Serafina, Quest Mall, Kolkata, looks over the spacious floor of the mall bustling with strollers. Its open structure allows a generous view for the eyes to relax and take in all the activities around.

On one side is the bar and semi-open kitchen with a pizza oven where chefs can be seen rustling up pizzas. A piece of graffiti on the red brick wall adds a touch of quirky creativity to the place. There is also a display of transparent jars with exotic spices, stirring the imagination towards lands unexplored.

Serafina, which promises fine North Italian home style cuisine, was originally launched in Kolkata in 2014. This year the restaurant has been given a fresh look, keeping in mind the need to provide upscale dining with a casual approach that caters to families as well as millennials.

A new menu has also been launched. This is more colourful, vibrant and fresh. The ingredients used are mostly imported from Italy, making the recipes not only classy on the plate but also good for health.

The Crostini di Chorizos, which are slices of French baguette richly gratinated with mozzarella cheese and topped with bits of chorizos (spicy pork sausages), are perfect starters.

Crostini Di Chorizo

The finely cut chorizos beautifully rolled into cones looked deliciously inviting. The rich and soft cheese coupled with the crispness of the baguette, tasted heavenly with each bite.

The delightful experience was heightened even more with the chorizos! The pan fried bhetki of the Pesce E Mostarda Salsa melts in the mouth as softly as a pillow! The creamy mustard sauce and mashed potato with parsley compliment it perfectly.

The Italian salad on the side made with red pepper, yellow and green zucchini add a dash of colours to the recipe.

Cremoso Spaghetti Calabrese comes with a variety of ingredients from homemade pink sauce with seasonal greens, olives and aged Parmesan. The thick and tangy spaghetti assures a diversity of tastes but also feels a bit heavy at the end.

The tiramisu, which is said to be the iconic dish of the place, is a must try. The invigorating smell of the espresso coffee soaked in Italian ladyfinger biscuits and the rich taste of cocoa leave the taste buds happy and satisfied. A perfect dessert, if ever there was one!
