A 40-year-old woman has been arrested in Maharashtra’s Beed district for allegedly strangling her husband and later trying to pass off the murder as a heart attack.

Police officials informed on Wednesday, July 1, that Nasreen Sharif Pathan killed her husband Sharif Pathan, 45, at their home in Patoda on the night of June 28. She was allegedly distressed by his alcoholism, PTI reported.

Initially, she told officials that her husband suffered a heart attack. With the help of their relatives, Nasreen shifted Sharif to a local government hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.

However, police official later grew suspicious after seeing marks around the victim’s neck as well as scratches on his body. After this, police questioned Nasreen, who later confessed to the crime, an official said.

On Tuesday, the accused was remanded in police custody for three days. Further investigation in the matter is currently underway.
