Three soldiers and eight terrorists killed in Kashmir encounters

Six terrorists were killed in two encounters yesterday and a soldier was martyred when terrorists attacked an Army camp in Tral of South Kashmir.

Three soldiers and eight terrorists have been killed in three encounters in the Kashmir valley during the past 24 hours as the terrorist outfits have revived their strategy of attacking Army and security forces camps. These encounters broke out in Baramulla of North Kashmir and Anantnag of South Kashmir.

The soldiers martyred in these encounters have been identified as Lance Naik Brajesh Kumar, who was killed in today’s encounter in Sopore and Sepoys Rajendera Singh and Ngamsiamliana who lost their lives in the encounter yesterday evening.

Army spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that two terrorists were today killed in the joint operation by Army, CRPF and J&K Police at Malgunipura in Sopore (Baramulla district). Four terrorists were eliminated yesterday in an encounter at Arwani in Anantnag.Two more terrorists were shot dead in an encounter at Kreeri in Baramulla.

Police said that during cordon and search operation this morning in Sopore, terrorists opened fire at the security forces who retaliated and killed two terrorists. Lance Naik Brajesh Kumar of 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) was critically injured during exchange of fire and succumbed in the military hospital.

Large number of miscreants gathered at the encounter sites and started pelting stones at the security forces. The police burst teargas shells to chase away the stone-pelters.

Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) is reported to have taken responsibility of attack at the Army camp in Tral.

The four Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists killed at Arwani in Anantnag have been identified as Owais Ahmad Lone, Sahir Makroo, area commander of Arwani, Muzamil Magray and Amir Tantray.

Terrorists fired indiscriminately at an Army camp of 34 RR at Mantribugh in Shopian of South Kashmir this afternoon. No loss of life has been reported.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, has demanded judicial probe into the Sunday’s death of seven civilians due to an unidentified explosion at an encounter spot in Kulgam. Tarigami alleged that innocent people were getting killed in the encounters.
