Thomson enters Indian smart TV market through Flipkart

A new smart TV range has reached India, with French consumer brand Thomson, owned by Technicolor SA, making a comeback to India.

Thomson, in collaboration with Business France, the trade section of the Embassy of France, launched the productcs at an event in New Delhi on April 12.

The company has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with the Super Plastronics Pvt. Ltd. (SPPL), an Indian company, to make the products available in India through e-commerce.

The 43 UHD 4K, 40 smart and 32 smart TVs will be exclusively available on Flipkart, starting 13 April 13.

The brand opened its flash sale on 13 April, Friday, at 12 noon, and went out of stock soon.

Enthralled with the response, Avneet Singh Marwah, CEO, Super Plastronics Pvt. Ltd. (SPPL), said “It is a great start for Thomson in India. We are humbled by the trust and confidence placed by the consumers in us. We strive to keep the consumers satisfied and only hope to increase our market share in coming times.”

​Next flash sale will be on 18 April, Wednesday, at 12 noon.

At the launch event on Wednesday, Claire Villeneuve, Head, Intellectual Property and Licensing, Technicolor, France, said “Technicolor, owner of Thomson brand is very proud to sign a long-term license with SPPL as a strategic partner to develop Thomson’s presence in India.”

Marwah, CEO, SPPL, said, “It is SPPL’s endeavor and commitment to promote ‘Make in India’, generate employment and contribute to the Indian economy. With the launch, we aim to capture 6% – 7% of total TV market share…”

He said the company already planned to put one more manufacturing line ofSPPL is a manufacturing concern established in 1990 with its head office in Noida.

”While technology and innovation remains the core of it, we have worked on many aspects of TV keeping in mind the Indian palate for aesthetics, color and sound,” said Singh.

The Thomson 43 UHD 4K Smart TVs come with default APK Gmail, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Netflix and runs on Android 4.4.4.0 and Aptoide with the feature to download any App.

The price range starts from a competitive Rs 13,490 (for 32M3277 model). The 40 Smart (40TM4099) model is available for Rs 19,990, while the 43 UHD 4K (43TM4377) will come for Rs 27,999.

Commenting on the launch, Sandeep Karwa, Head of TV & Large Appliance, Flipkart said, “Our exclusive partnership with Thomson offers our shoppers a complete package of smart technology and great features at an aggressive price. We are confident this would be another bestseller on Flipkart.”

Welcoming Thomson’s comeback to India, Claire Thuaudet, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of France, said, “The appropriate departments of this Embassy would be happy to extend any support that is required by Thomson in seeking potential partners or exploring new markets in India.”
