The top court also rejected the prayers of petitioners to return to ballot paper voting system, calling it foible and unsound.
The Supreme Court will pronounce its order on Tuesday on a petition seeking a SIT probe into allegations of graft against a retired Orissa High Court judge that has cast a shadow on the top court.
Reserving the order after an hour-and-a-half-hour long hearing, the bench comprising Justice R.K. Agrawal, Justice Arun Mishra, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar said that damage has already been done to the institution and question how to undo it.
The bench also said that the imbroglio has created doubts about the institution in the minds of people and dented its credibility.
