Startled by the BJP’s pitiable showing in the RK Nagar by-election where it polled less votes than NOTA, party leader Subramanian Swamy on Sunday called for accountability.

In a tweet, Swamy said: “TN BJP record: A national ruling party gets a quarter of NOTA’s vote. Time for accountability.”

After the fourth round of counting, the BJP polled just 318 votes while NOTA (None Of The Above) got 493 votes.

BJP’s state unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan had on December 1 confirmed that the party would fight the bypoll and had nominated party state secretary Karu Nagarajan to contest.

Sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran who is fighting as an independent candidate is all set to win the polls as we was leading with 20,292 votes (53.14 per cent) while AIADMK’s Madhusudhanan polled 9,672 votes (25.30 per cent) and DMK’s Maruthu Ganesh got 5,032 votes (13.17 per cent)

Swamy further predicted that ahead of 2019 General elections the warring ADMK factions will unite under one banner.

“Dinakaran seems to have won the R K Nagar election caused by JJ death. I expect to see the two ADMK factions now to unite for 2019 LS poll,” he said.

The high-stakes constituency that fell vacant after the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was a prestige battle between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami, his deputy O Panneerselvam of the AIADMK and Dhinakaran.
