The BJP on Friday sharply criticised Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, alleging that his conduct during the first leg of the Budget session of Parliament has been “anarchic, undemocratic and politically uncivilised.”

Addressing mediapersons, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said the behaviour of Congress members during the session, allegedly at Gandhi’s behest, demonstrated a disregard for democratic norms, constitutional decorum, and parliamentary rules.

Expressing concern that Gandhi’s conduct was increasingly becoming an “embodiment of anarchy,” Prasad accused him of showing little respect for parliamentary procedures, constitutional propriety, and democratic traditions. He further remarked that he had not become the leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha due to exceptional ability or talent, adding that he should now learn to uphold the responsibilities of the position.

“The BJP strongly condemns this rampant anarchic, undemocratic and politically uncivilised behaviour of Rahul Gandhi,” he said, adding, “Gandhi has not become the leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha with his ability or talent. Since he has become the LoP, he should learn a bit.”

The first leg of the Budget Session was marked by heated exchanges over the India-US interim trade deal and the unpublished memoir of former Army Chief M M Naravane, concluded on Friday. Parliament will reconvene on March 9.
