Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday released the 13th installment of the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme (PM-KISAN) worth Rs 16,800 crore for over eight crore eligible farmers at an event held at Belagavi, Karnataka. With this, the total amount transferred to the beneficiaries is expected to cross Rs 2.30 lakh crore.

“All farmers of India have been connected with Belagavi here today, crores of farmers have been credited with over Rs 16,000 crore from here. This installment is a greeting of Holi,” PM Modi declared.

The 13th installment announcement under the PM-KISAN comes four months after the 12th installment released in October 2022.

The prime minister said, “Till now, through PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, about Rs 2.5 lakh crore have been deposited in the accounts of our farmers.”

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme was launched by PM Narendra Modi in 2019. Aimed at providing financial stability to land holding farmer families with cultivable land subject to specific exclusions under the PM-KISAN scheme, eligible farmers get Rs 2,000 every four months, which is Rs 6,000 annually. The money is provided in three installments in a year. The fund is directly transferred to their bank accounts.

Those excluded from the PM-KISAN include institutional land holders, farmer families holding constitutional posts, serving or retired officers and employees of State or Central government as well as Public Sector Undertakings and Government Autonomous bodies. Professionals like doctors, engineers and lawyers as well as retired pensioners with a monthly pension of over Rs 10,000 and those who paid income tax in the last assessment year are also not eligible for the benefits.
