Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Meerut on February 22 to inaugurate and dedicate development projects worth around ₹12,930 crore, including the full commissioning of the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor and the launch of the Meerut Metro.

According to a release from the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi will flag off the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat train from Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station at around 12:30 PM. He will then travel by metro to Meerut South Station. At about 1 PM, the Prime Minister will dedicate multiple projects to the nation and address a public gathering.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the entire 82-km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor, marking the completion of India’s first Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). This includes the 5-km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and the 21-km section connecting Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.

Designed for speeds of up to 180 km/h, the Namo Bharat system will connect major urban centres including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut with Delhi, significantly enhancing regional connectivity.

Sarai Kale Khan, the originating station, will serve as a major multi-modal transport hub, integrating Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT, and Ring Road.

The other stations being inaugurated—Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram—are located in Meerut.

In a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Meerut Metro services between Meerut South and Modipuram. Operating on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat trains, the Meerut Metro will enable seamless integration between regional and local transit.

With a maximum speed of 120 km/h, it will become India’s fastest metro system, covering the entire route in approximately 30 minutes, including all scheduled stops.

The integrated Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro network is expected to set a new benchmark in urban and regional mobility, easing congestion and providing high-speed connectivity between key urban centres.

These projects are part of the government’s broader vision to modernise urban transport through sustainable and efficient public transit systems. The integrated network is expected to reduce road congestion, lower carbon emissions, improve quality of life, and boost economic growth in western Uttar Pradesh.

During the event, the Prime Minister is expected to highlight the importance of next-generation infrastructure in accelerating India’s development and promoting sustainable urban mobility.
