PM Modi launches ‘Amma’ scooter scheme in Chennai

Being considered a masterstroke to woo the people of Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the AIADMK government’s project to provide subsidised two-wheelers to working women.

A pet project of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa, the ‘Amma’ scooter subsidy scheme was launched on her 70th birth anniversary.

Under the scheme, the government will provide 50 per cent subsidy subject to a maximum of Rs.25,000 for the purchase of scooters by working women.

According to officials, the prime minister will on Sunday visit Puducherry and address a public meeting.

At Aurobindo Ashram, he will offer floral tributes to Shri Aurobindo, and interact with students of Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education.

He will also visit Auroville and release a commemorative postage stamp on its golden jubilee celebrations.

On Sunday evening, PM Modi will head to Surat, Gujarat, for the flagging off of the ‘Run for New India Marathon’.
