After two and a half years of lull, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday appointed 100 block presidents ahead of upcoming assembly polls in the state in December next.

Last weekend, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, party in-charge and former Deputy CM of Punjab, had reviewed the status of PCC Organisation and assured to fill up the vacant posts soon.

After the move, the district presidents and the remaining 300 block presidents are to be appointed sometime this week, a party spokesman said here.

The opinion of the MLAs has been given due importance in the appointments. In most places, special leaders of ministers and legislators have been made block presidents. There is a lot of proximity to big leaders in it.

In Tonk, both block presidents have been made pro-leaders of Sachin Pilot. After two and a half years, the Congress has not made the entire block president. It is said that the 300 remaining blocks are being reconsidered in view of the apprehension of dispute. Earlier only 13 district presidents were made.

The Block presidents have been made in the constituencies of 23 ministers including the Chief Minister, but still these posts are vacant in the constituencies of seven ministers. In the matter of boycotting the meeting of the Congress Legislature Party on September 25, block presidents have not been appointed even in the areas of both the ministers – Shanti Dhariwal and Mahesh Joshi, who were served AICC notices for violation of CLP meeting in September.

Now, only 25 per cent blocks are filled while 75 are per cent vacant. Congress has 400 blocks. As of now, appointments have been made in only 25 percent of the blocks. 75 percent are empty. At the time of the rebellion of the Sachin Pilot group, on 15 July 2020, all the district and block executive bodies of the Congress were dissolved. Since that time the blocks were lying vacant in the Pradesh Congress Committee.
