Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that Cyclone Phethai has affected 17 Mandals in East Godavari district which has directly affected 5602 farmers.

He said that 2179 hectares of paddy fields and 30 hectares of horticulture have also been damaged.

“Electricity supply has been restored in 14 mandals. 187 camps have been set up, 32,000 people have been provided food. Mobile connectivity has been restored. East Godavari and Krishna administration brought situation under control within hours,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.

Naidu, the chief of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), had on Monday told state officials to assess damage and devise the fastest way to deal with rescue and relief work.

The depression over north coastal Andhra Pradesh weakened into a well-marked low pressure. It has further weakened into a low pressure area, which is likely to trigger light to moderate rainfall in Odisha during the next 12 hours, said an IMD bulletin.

It advised fishermen not to venture into northwest Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha coast in the next 12 hours, the bulletin said.
