Murshidabad Masjid row: Won’t accept mosque in the name of Babar, says BJP’s Dilip Ghosh
Amid the row over suspended TMC leader Humayun Kabir’s move to erect a mosque in West Bengal’s Murshidabad, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh has warned that the society will never accept a mosque in the name of Mughal ruler Babar.
Ghosh further suggested that the suspended TMC leader should form his own party to help underprivileged Muslims instead of constructing a mosque in the name of Babar.
“I want to ask Humayun Kabir to make a different party and fight for the Muslims of West Bengal who are very underprivileged, and try to develop them. Don’t make a mosque after the name of Babar, the society here would not accept it,” Ghosh said.
His remarks came a day after Humayun laid the foundation stone for the construction of Babri Masjid in Murshidabad on Saturday, December 6, the day a controversial structure of the same name was demolished in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya in 1992.
Humayun was suspended from the TMC after he announced the construction of the mosque in the name of Babar.
Following his suspension, Humayun announced to form his own political party and defended the move to erect the mosque.
He said that the Constitution of India gives everyone the right to build places of worship.
“I am not doing anything unconstitutional. Anyone can build a temple, anyone can build a church; I will build a mosque,’ he said.
The suspended TMC leader asserted that legal challenges would not deter him from constructing the Babri mosque in Murshidabad.
“Five cases have been filed against me, but no one can stop someone with whom Allah is. The court has also clearly stated that it is written in the Constitution of India that one can build a mosque; it is a right,” he said.
He further stated that a Rs 300-crore budget has been allocated for the construction of the mosque, which will also include a hospital.
“It is a promise of the Muslims, the Babri Masjid will be built, it will be built, it will be built,” he added.
