With the steep 50 per cent US tariffs on Indian goods coming into effect from Wednesday, coinciding with the beginning of the ‘Ganesh Utsav’ and the festive season, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday appealed to people to promote “swadeshi” (indigenous) goods to encourage small traders.

While extending greetings of the Ganesh Utsav, he also emphasized that idols should be made primarily of clay and paper pulp, while the use of Plaster of Paris — which poses environmental damage — should be discouraged.

Dr Yadav urged the citizens to use indigenous products in the making of Ganesh idols and decorations of tableaux.
