A militant was killed and a policeman was left injured when some ultras attacked a police picket in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, the police said on Saturday.

Militants attacked a police picket at Achabal late Friday night, a police official said. He added that the attack was successfully repulsed.

“A weapon was recovered from the victim who has been identified as Bilal Ahmad of Yaripora village. A policeman was also injured in the encounter,” the authorities said.

It is believed that the militant was associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

In retaliatory action, one militant was killed and his weapon was recovered, he said.

The official said that in the shootout, a policeman sustained injuries and was shifted to a hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.

According to the police, Ahmad had joined the LeT outfit three months ago. He was involved in a number of terrorist attacks on the security forces.
