J-K: Medical college doctor sacked over ‘anti-govt’ Facebook post

The Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) government has terminated the services of the Registrar of the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for an “anti-government” post on Facebook, an official said on Sunday.

Dr Amit Kumar was sacked after he violated rules that prevent a government servant from using social media to write anti-government posts.

Dr Kumar had been appointed for three years on contract to serve in the Anesthesia department of Jammu’s GMC.

According to J-K government notification date 26/12/2017, no government employee shall use their personal social media account for any political activity or endorse the posts or tweets or blogs of any political figure.

The notification barred all employees shall not post any inflammatory message with intent to of provoking readers into an emotional response.

According to termination letter, it was found that Dr Amit Kumar has used his personal social media account (Facebook) and commented with the intent of provoking readers.
