Intelligence agencies have been put on high alert in view of the Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14. This has been done in the wake of April 2 violence during the Bharat Bandh call of the Dalit organisations against the decision of the Supreme Court on the SC/ST Act.
In order to avoid any kind of tension on the Ambedkar Jayanti, the intelligence agencies are working overtime to ensure peace and harmony.
Clear instructions have been given that processions and programmes without permission will not be allowed on the day. SP city Maan Singh Chauhan said, “Police stations have been directed to forward applications seeking permission for processions only after examining them minutely.”
After the large-scale violence on April 2, now the police can’t afford to take any chance and has put local intelligence units on their toes.
Also, Divisional Commissioner Prabhat Kumar has appealed to parents not to allow their wards to participate in processions and meetings so that they could be protected against any legal action if something untoward is reported.
Meanwhile, officials have ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the headship of SP(city) Maan Singh Chauhan to probe the cases of violence occurred on April 2. “Besides legal experts, the SIT will include a team of two circle officers, five inspectors and 11 sub-inspectors led by SP city and investigate all 71 cases registered in different police stations,” SSP Manzil Saini said.
A thorough investigation of these cases will be carried out so that those involved in the violence are brought to book, the SSP said.
The violence of April 2 had claimed life of a young boy Ankur and left many, including cops, injured. Ever since the police here are trying to maintain peace and tranquility in the area.
On Friday evening, the police and administrative officials will carry out a flag march starting from Jali Kothi up to Clock Tower, covering most parts of the old city area. DM, SSP, ADM city, SP city, all COs, SHOs, RAF and PAC will participate in the march.
