Himachal Pradesh Police has topped among all states and Union Territories (UTs) for fastest Police Verification Reports (PVR) for Passport Issuance.
Passport is the basic identity document and essential for any foreign travel. Millions of Indians apply for passports every year to be able to travel abroad.
Police Verification Reports (PVR) is the basis for the issue of passports by the Regional Passport Office.
An award acknowledging this feat of the state police was received by Sanjay Kundu, DGP-HP from Foreign Minister in the Ministry of External Affairs Dr. S Jaishanker on Friday.
Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police Sanjay Kundu said, “It is a matter of great honour that the state of Himachal Pradesh has been adjudged first among all the state and UT police in passport verifications during the year 2021-22 by the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.”
For this achievement, External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar has awarded Himachal Pradesh Police with the ‘Certificate of Recognition’ at New Delhi, he added.
“In the year 2016, the average time of passport verification was 70 days. We have brought down the time for PVR to 24 hours, which is one day in the year 2021-22,” said Kundu who monitors the progress of passport verification on a weekly basis during Monday’s meeting.
Earlier, passport verifications were sent through postal dak to the concerned Police Stations by the respective district Superintendent of Police.
Now, the same are transmitted to concerned police stations through e-mail for verification and the replies are also received through mail. On receipt of applications for passport verifications prompt action taken for verification at SP office and Police Station level, as a result replies of passport verification is sent within 24 hours.
