It is noteworthy that Manvendra is the son of former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh. He first entered politics in 1999 when he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Barmer-Jaisalmer seat against Congress’ Colonel Sonaram.

He was defeated in this election. However, in the 2004 elections, he avenged his defeat and registered a landslide victory by defeating Colonel Sonaram.
