A fire engulfed the fifth and sixth floors of the old section of the state secretariat building (Vallabh Bhavan) at Bhopal Saturday morning.

The blaze occured at around 10 AM and some cleaning staff were the first to notice it and they informed the superiors and fire department.

As it was a Saturday, being a holiday, the building was luckily vacant and officials and secretariat employees were not present.

Yet, the blaze was very strong and it soon engulfed other floors of the building too.

Many fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

The fire initially subsided but after some time it erupted again. Subsequently the authorities summoned the army, and SDERF teams too reached the spot.

Some rescue workers sustained injuries during the fire fighting and five employees were rescued from the building.

Reacting to the incident, MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari alleged that the BJP was behind the fire.

“The Vallabh Bhavan has been put on fire five times in the past during the BJP rule but till date no report has been received about any of those incidents,” He charged.

“The BJP has become synonymous with corruption and it has put the Vallabh Bhavan on fire,” Mr Patwari accused.
