FIR in Operation Sindoor Pookkalam is seditious, should be withdrawn immediately: Rajeev Chandrasekhar

BJP Kerala president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has strongly criticised the action of the Kerala Police in having registered an FIR for arranging a “pookkalam” (floral carpet) on the theme of Operation Sindoor, calling it a seditious act.

In a post on social media platform X on Saturday, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said Operation Sindoor is the pride of all patriotic Indians. ”It is a symbol of the strength and fighting spirit of our armed forces. It should be remembered that Operation Sindoor was a brave military action that avenged the deaths of 26 innocent tourists who were killed by terrorists, identifying their religion,” he said.

“This is Kerala. It is a proud part of India. Yet, an FIR has been lodged for making a Pookkalam with the words “Operation Sindoor” in it. Absolutely Unacceptable!” Chandrasekhar wrote in his post on X.

The BJP Kerala chief also said that this FIR by the Kerala Police is an insult to those 26 Indians who were victims of terrorism, their families, and every soldier who protects and saves the country by giving their own blood.

He said the authorities should remember that there are thousands of Malayalees who are guarding the border in military uniform and have sacrificed their lives for the tricolor. Therefore, there is no doubt that every Malayalee who stands for the motherland will oppose this FIR and the shameless politics of appeasement, he said.

Stating that the Kerala police do not forget that this is India, he demanded the immediate withdrawal of the FIR filed by the state police over the Pookkalam that carried words “Operation Sindoor”.

“Kerala is not ruled by Jamaat-e-Islami or Pakistan. It will never be like that. It is better if the Kerala Police do not forget that this is India. What I want to say to them and Chief Minister and Home Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is that this seditious and shameful FIR should be withdrawn immediately,” Rajeev Chandrasekhar wrote in his post on X.

An FIR was registered in connection with the dispute over arranging ‘pookkalam’with the words Operation Sindoor at the Parthasarathy temple in Muthupilakkadu, Kollam. The Sasthamkotta police have registered a case against Shasthamkotta native and former soldier Sarath as the first accused and Ashokan, who is currently serving in the army, as the second accused. A case has also been registered against 25 RSS supporters and activists in connection with the dispute over arranging the Pookkalam.
