The Mathura Police have taken a tough stand against those tarnishing the image of the world-famous “Lathmar” and “Laddumar” Holi celebrations of Barsana and Nandgaon. The Barsana police station has filed a case against nine social media influencers for allegedly defaming the 5,000-year-old cultural tradition by circulating misleading and edited video clips on social media.

The police learned that some influencers had edited old Holi videos and shared them in an objectionable manner on social media. Investigations revealed that these misleading videos were spreading rumours and creating social disharmony in the area. According to the police, these posts increased the risk of insecurity among women and tension in society.
