A five-member team of the Election Commission will be arriving here on Wednesday on a two-day visit to take stock of the preparedness for the 2018 state assembly elections, an official said on Tuesday.

The team headed by Deputy Election Commissioner Chandra Bhushan Kumar will hold a series of meetings with police and state election officials besides high-ups.

Nodal officers of various departments will give presentations on election preparedness before the Election Commission team, said Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Roy Kharkongor.

The Election Commission officials will also meet leaders of various political parties.

Kharkongor said the officials of the Election Commission will review the poll preparedness with the Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police along with Divisional Commissioners.

Meghalaya is likely to go to the polls in February-March next year to elect a new 60-member assembly.

The Congress has been ruling the state for the second consecutive term.
