The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday issued fresh summons to TMC leader and expelled Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra for questioning in the FEMA case. The central probe agency has asked Moitra to appear before it on March 11.

Earlier last month, Moitra was asked to appear before the agency on February 19. However, she skipped the agency’s summons and asked for a few weeks time to join the investigation.

The ED wants to question Moitra in the case under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999 and record her statement linked to the case.

The TMC leader is also being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The agency is conducting a preliminary inquiry against her on reference from the Lokpal.

According to reports, the ED case is based on the CBI investigation.

In another news, the Delhi High Court today dismissed the plea filed by Moitra, who was seeking direction to restrain BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai from making allegations against her related to the ‘Cash for query’ case.

The plea filed by the TMC MP sought interim relief from the court and urged it to restrain the BJP MP and Advocate Dehadrai from making, posting, publishing, uploading, or distributing any content that states that she accepted bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in Parliament.

Moitra, a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government’s policies, was expelled from the Lok Sabha after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s allegations of bribery for asking questions in Parliament.

Dubey alleged that Moitra asked questions to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts.
