The Congress party on Saturday criticised the government for having failed to solve the ongoing acute crisis of electricity and water supply in Jammu. The party also accused the Modi government of not implementing the promises its leaders made during the elections.

The PCC chief, GA Mir, presided over a meeting of top leaders of the party here and discussed the latest political situation in the state besides the organizational affairs of the party.

The meeting discussed the current issues confronting the people including the acute water and power crisis in most parts of Jammu province. Detailed deliberations were held to activate the organizational set up to highlight the issues of people in order to make the administration responsive to the needs of the people, besides making the BJP government at the centre accountable to deliver on the “tall promises” made to the people from time to time.

The meeting welcomed the inclusion of International Border residents in the existing 3% reservation to LOC residents, however, it viewed that the reservation quota should be enhanced to 6% besides provision of plots at safe zones as promised to them from time to time.

The meeting also sought the implementation of full package to the refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 as recommended for the first time by the Congress-NC government including a financial package of minimum Rs 25 lakh per family and reservation for their wards in paramilitary forces and technical course etc.

Since the BJP has the full mandate at the centre, it should deliver on all its important commitments to the people of the state, especially the Jammu region, the PCC demanded.

The meeting lashed out at the central government for totally ignoring the state in the budget presented on Friday. The Jammu-Poonch Railway project, which was initiated by the UPA government on the initiative of Rahul Gandhi, and a vital link of strategic importance, has not seen the light of the day even after more than five years, which is a matter of great concern.

The meeting warned that BJP can’t take the people of the region for a ride after seeking a huge mandate on various important commitments but the very first budget of NDA-II is totally disappointing for the people of the state.
