Rohit Shetty is expanding his cop universe saga with the third character, Veer Sooryavanshi. Akshay Kumar, who is all set to play the titular role in Sooryavanshi, began shooting for the film along with Katrina Kaif in Mumbai on Monday.

Sooryavanshi will be the fourth installment of the cop drama’s successful films, Singham series starring Ajay Devgn, and Simmba starring Ranveer Singh.

The makers of the film shared the film’s shoot commencement news on social media. The lead cast was joined by Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh on the first day of the shoot.

Karan Johar, who will produce the film, shared a photograph with Akshay, Ajay, Ranveer and Shetty. All three actors are seen holding clapboards of the films they have been part of or are doing.

Earlier, Badhaai Ho actor Neena Gupta was also signed in to play Akshay’s mother in the film.

The Padman actor will be seen essaying the role of an Anti-Terrrorism Squad chief while Katrina will play his love interest.

After a 10-12 day shooting schedule in Mumbai, the Sooryavanshi team will fly to Bangkok to shoot the hero’s introductory scene, followed by Ramoji Fimcity( Hyderabad) and a brief shoot in Goa, according to reports.

The film is gearing up for a Eid 2020 release, a slot that most generally sees release of Salman Khan’s films.
