However, ahead of production, the filmmaker has addressed reports suggesting that Golmaal 5 is based on the classic comedy Do Aur Do Paanch.
Rohit Shetty clears adaptation rumours
Putting the rumours to rest, Shetty has firmly denied any such connection and clarified that the upcoming film is not inspired by or adapted from the 1980 Amitabh Bachchan–Shashi Kapoor starrer.
Official clarification issued
Following widespread reports online, the director’s team released a strong statement, “We wish to issue a strict clarification regarding certain news reports currently circulating across online and digital media platforms claiming that Golmaal 5 is inspired by or based on the film `Do Aur Do Paanch’.”
They also said, “We categorically state that these reports are factually incorrect, misleading and completely untrue. We strongly request all media houses, publications, portals, and digital platforms to refrain from publishing or circulating unverified information.”
“Any news, update or clarification pertaining to Rohit Shetty or Golmaal 5 must be verified with us or the official PR representatives – Universal Communications, prior to publication or Strict Legal action will be taken. We expect your cooperation in maintaining journalistic accuracy and responsibility. We also request that incorrect reports currently in circulation be corrected or taken down at the earliest.”, the team concluded.
Cast speculation and earlier reports
Reports had earlier suggested that Golmaal 5 would feature Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, and franchise regulars Arshad Warsi, Kunal Kemmu, Sharman Joshi, and Tusshar Kapoor.
Some claims even stated that Shetty planned to rework Do Aur Do Paanch within the Golmaal universe, while keeping the franchise’s comic style intact.
These rumours gained traction after a Bollywood Hungama report claimed that Shetty often draws inspiration from classic Hindi comedies. However, the director has now categorically denied this link.
Security concerns around the film
Meanwhile, security arrangements around the project have been tightened following reports of gunshots fired outside Shetty’s Juhu residence. Mumbai Police have increased protection at his home and are planning similar measures at the Golmaal 5 sets.
The production team is coordinating with local authorities and Shetty’s personal security to ensure the safety of the cast and crew during filming.
Production plans and release timeline
Production on Golmaal 5 is expected to begin by the end of February at Film City, Mumbai, with a theatrical release planned for early 2027.
The film will mark the sixth collaboration between Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar after films like Suhaag, Khakee, Sooryavanshi, and Singham Again.
Rohit Shetty is currently wrapping up work on the Rakesh Maria biopic starring John Abraham. Ajay Devgn is busy shooting Drishyam 3, while Akshay Kumar will join Golmaal 5 after completing his upcoming comedy with Vidya Balan.
