Filmmaker Rohit Shetty has received an extortion threat of Rs 20 crore, allegedly from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The threat was delivered through an audio clip approximately 90 seconds long, which was found by Shetty’s staff on Saturday morning.

In the clip, the voice warns that if Shetty does not pay the demanded amount, he will be directly targeted. The clip also references the firing at Shetty’s Juhu residence in February 2026, describing it as a trailer and warning that the next attack would be directed at the filmmaker himself.

Voice believed to be Shubham Lonkar

A Mumbai Crime Branch official said Shetty’s staff handed over the audio clip to the police after finding it on Saturday morning. Based on initial investigation, the voice in the clip is believed to be that of Shubham Lonkar, a close aide of Lawrence Bishnoi.

Lonkar is wanted in connection with two separate cases: the 2024 murder of leader Baba Siddiqui and the February 2026 firing at Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence. The audio clip has been sent for forensic examination to verify the voice.

The February 2026 Juhu firing

The threat directly references an earlier attack on Shetty’s property. In February 2026, five bullets were fired outside his residence in Juhu, near Hasya Kalakar Mehmood Chowk. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for that attack.

The shots were fired by a bike-borne individual identified as Deepak Sharma. Sharma was subsequently arrested in Agra.

Charge sheet filed in April

The Mumbai Crime Branch filed a 1,624-page charge sheet in connection with the Juhu firing incident in April 2026. Fifteen accused were named in the charge sheet. Two of those named, Pravin Lonkar and Aarzo Bishnoi, were declared absconders at the time of filing.

The charge sheet represents the formal documentation of the investigation into the February firing, which the gang itself had claimed responsibility for.

Who is Shubham Lonkar?

Shubham Lonkar is identified by police as a close associate of Lawrence Bishnoi. He is currently wanted in connection with the 2024 murder of Baba Siddiqui, a political leader whose killing drew significant attention at the time. Lonkar is also wanted in connection with the February 2026 firing at Shetty’s Juhu home.

The forensic examination of the clip will determine whether the voice can be formally confirmed as his.
