Actress Kritika Kamra has shared her thoughts on what feminism really means, clearing up some common misunderstandings.

She feels that over time the word has been twisted and wrongly seen as something negative, when in truth it simply stands for fairness and equal opportunities.

In a candid conversation, Kritika said it makes her sad that many women today hesitate to call themselves feminists. “The word has been demonised and misused. Supporting women’s rights doesn’t mean you are against men,” she explained.

For her, feminism is not about competition or hostility but about ensuring that women get the same respect, rights, and chances as men.

She pointed out how society sometimes treats women standing up for themselves as confrontational. Kritika Kamra strongly believes that this perception needs to change. “We need to reclaim feminism and remind everyone what it really stands for: fairness, equality, and empowerment,” she said.

The actress also connected her personal beliefs to the kind of work she chooses as an artist. She explained that she has always been careful about the roles she plays and the stories she supports.

“The characters I take on must say something meaningful. I want to be part of stories that challenge stereotypes, break biases, and present women as real, layered people. For me, acting is not just art. It is also responsibility,” she added.

On the work front, Kritika has some exciting projects lined up. She will next appear in a film directed by Anusha Rizvi, best known for her critically acclaimed debut ‘Peepli Live’. The film, which was shot across Delhi, brings together strong female talents including Juhi Babbar and Shreya Dhanwanthary.

Apart from this, Kritika will also appear in ‘Matka King’, a much-talked-about series by filmmaker Nagraj Manjule, the acclaimed director of ‘Sairat’ and ‘Fandry’. The show stars Vijay Varma in the lead role and explores the rise of the gambling game Matka in Mumbai during the 1960s.
