Hollywood star Simu Liu is back in action quite literally and this time, the bruises are real. The ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ actor revealed that filming his new espionage thriller series, ‘The Copenhagen Test’, turned out to be far tougher than he expected.
In a chat with ‘People’ magazine, the 36-year-old actor opened up about doing his own stunts for the show, where he plays a Chinese-American intelligence analyst trapped between a mysterious government agency and a group of dangerous hackers.

“I got kicked in the face. Yeah. Many, many, many times,” Simu confessed with a laugh but it wasn’t a joke.
Even with “phenomenal” stunt coordinators, brothers James and Chris Mark, keeping things as safe as possible, Simu admitted that things often went wrong. “When you’re doing fight scenes or running full speed through a hallway and have to crash into three people, something’s bound to happen,” he said. “I’ve been kicked, thrown, slammed into walls. It’s part of the job.”
While many actors prefer to use stunt doubles to avoid injuries, Simu Liu explained why he chooses the harder path. “There’s nothing wrong with letting a stunt double step in,” he said, “but it limits what editors can do later. Some shots just don’t look right when it’s not you.”
For him, taking the hits is worth it. “When an actor does their own stunts, it gives the editor so many more options. They can cut from any angle, any time,” he added.
But there’s another reason he dives into the action himself: his competitive streak. “Honestly, it’s probably to my own detriment,” he admitted. “I’ve been like this since I was four years old. If I see someone doing something and think I could do it just as well or better, I’m like, ‘Alright, put me in there!’”
