After the mass exodus of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLAs in West Bengal, a fresh wave of exits may have now started hitting the Mamata Banerjee-led party’s parliamentary ranks. TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray called it quits on Monday morning as he resigned from the party’s primary membership as well as gave up his seat in the Upper House.

Ray submitted his resignation at the Vice President’s Enclave (Uparashtrapati Bhavan) at around 10:30 am on Monday. The resignation comes at the time when TMC supremo and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew and party’s General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee are in the national capital for the Opposition INDIA bloc meeting.

“In the recently held election to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, the people have given huge mandate in favour of the Bhartiya Janata Party for the first time in the history of the state to put an end to 15-year anarchical rule of the Trinamool Congress arising out of widespread unbridled corruption, atrocities committed against women, abysmal failure in the field of health, education, industry, law and order, employment, etc.

Meanwhile, the newly elected people’s government has started taking initiatives for overall development and reconstruction of West Bengal as per its Election Manifesto,” he mentioned in his resignation letter.

Speaking to reporters he expressed his grievances about his former party, especially about its style of functioning.

The senior politician claimed that party leaders, as well as those who headed various committees in the TMC were neither allowed to work independently nor were they heard. He expressed that several party leaders had no choice but to accept their fate.

Speaking about the recent loss of the TMC in the recently concluded state assembly elections, Ray said that residents of Bengal have got frustrated with the ruling party. However, no one from the party has tried to find out what was the reason behind this huge electoral debacle.

TMC Split?

The cracks within the TMC ranks was out in the open when as many as 58 of the 80 elected MLAs declared themselves to be the real TMC, and demanded the Leader of Opposition post for their leader Ritabrata Banerjee.

Following this, rumblings were on in Delhi, that this kind of an internal rift may hit the party’s ranks in Delhi as well.
