Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi is all set to play Man Singh, who was the manager of the 1983 cricket World Cup winning team, in Kabir Khan directioral ’83. The upcoming film stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev and traces the historic victory.

The makers of the film shared the news on social media and wrote, “The man behind the champions, #ManSingh, will be played by Actor Extraordinaire @TripathiiPankaj. #CastOf83”


Pankaj Tripathi talked about the role and the director Kabir Khan, and said that he was always inspired and impressed by Kabir’s films. “He is one of my favourite directors and we met a couple of times but never got an opportunity to work together. Then one day, he called me to narrate the story of 83 and at certain points, it made me tear up,” Pankaj Tripathi reminisces.

He added that he found the story inspiring, “I must have been around eight or nine at the time but I did read about the win in the papers. It’s an inspiring story and I leapt at the opportunity to be a part of the film.”

Apart from Ranveer Singh and Pankaj Triptahi, the film casts, YouTuber Sahil Khatter as Syed Kirmani, Tamil film star Jiiva was finalised to play the role of former Indian cricket captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Punjabi singer-actor Ammy Virk was finalised to play the role of Balwinder Singh Sandhu.

The film ’83 would be Ranveer Singh’s first trilingual film — to be made in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Presented by Reliance Entertainment and produced by Madhu Mantena, Vishnu Induri & Kabir Khan, the film will be released on 10 April 2020.
