In a bid to put pressure on ruling Telugu Desam Party Leader of the Opposition, YS Jaganmohan Reddy has announced that YSRCP MPs would resign from the Parliament if the Centre does not grant special category status to Andhra Pradesh by 6 April.

This was announced by the party supremo during a public rally at Nellore as a part of his ongoing padayatra across the state to highlight the alleged mal-administration of the Naidu government.

Following a key meeting with party leaders, Mr Reddy announced a slew of political programmes to be taken up by the party while demanding special category status for the state as was announced in the bifurcation act.

Mr Reddy began by taking pot shots at the chief minister who started all the “drama” after the Union budget was presented, he alleged. Accusing Mr N Chandrababu Naidu of trying to divert the issue, the Opposition leader pointed out that the special category status was the right of the state and it was also its lifeline for development.

“We will be fighting for special status until 6 April . If the Centre does not grant special status our MPs will resign. We will stage protests in the Parliament from 5 March till April 6,” announced Mr Reddy. 6 April would be the last day of the Budget session.

Meanwhile YSRCP supporters would participate in protests at the Collectorate offices on 1 March . Mr Reddy will also lead protests by party MLAs and MPs on 5 March near Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Just after the Union Budget was presented TDP MPs despite being NDA ally have been agitating within the House. Mr Naidu has apparently set 5 March as a deadline for meeting all the 19 unfulfilled commitments under the AP Reorganisation Act.
