Urinating in the open has cost a junior engineer of Haridwar municipal corporation dear. The official, Jagdish Prasad, has been fined Rs. 5,000 for the act. This is the first such case in the state.

According to reports, District Magistrate Deepak Rawat was passing by the collectorate when he saw a person urinating in the open. When the DM asked who he was, the person identified himself as MC junior engineer Jagdish Prasad.

The Haridwar DM got annoyed as sufficient number of toilets exist on the collectorate campus.

In his 30 June 2017 order, the District Magistrate asked the Municipal Corporation to deduct Rs. 5,000 from the salary of the erring official and to deposit the money in the treasury. The Haridwar DM has also warned of disciplinary action if the penalty is not deposited by the guilty engineer.

The central government recently had asked the state government to impose fines for littering, defecation and urination in the open.
