Fire, death, probe, silence: Magisterial inquiries are Delhi’s official way of moving on
Every government that has ruled Delhi has ordered a magisterial inquiry after a major fire. Not one report has ever been placed in the public domain.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced Rs 25,000 each for families whose shacks were gutted in a fire in the Batla house area on Tuesday afternoon.
Kejriwal visited the area and promised the compensation for reconstruction of their homes. He also assured to make schooling arrangements for the children residing in the slum.
“Rs 25,000 each will be given to those whose shanties were burnt. We will also make arrangements for the education of children,” the chief minister said.

He also said that necessary documents which were destroyed in the fire will be issued again by the government.

Around 80 shacks were gutted in a fire in a slum in southeast Delhi’s Jamia Nagar, rendering several people homeless.
