The police administration is worried as it has failed to secure any clue to the increasing instances of bank robberies in the state and the fact that five days ago two banks were looted one here and another in Nayagarh district.
Five days have passed since the sensational bank dacoity took place in the heart of the city here and the police is still groping in the dark about the criminals who seem are step ahead of the police.
The Additional director general of police, crime branch, Mr S K Upadyaya on Tuesday made an on the spot assessment and held talks with senior officials including the SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra and SDPO Haripar Pani.

He reportedly directed officials to step up investigations. Police investigation is making no headway except sending some squads to outside the district as the dacoits took away the hard disks of the CCTV installed in the bank.
In broad day light on Friday last five to six armed miscreants stormed into the Andhra Bank branch here and decamped with gold and cash.They herded the customers into a room and beat up bank staff before snatched money and gold.
According to sources police formed about sevan squads who have gone to Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and districts like Sambalpur, Jharsuguda etc.
“We are leaving no stone unturned to advance our probe and will succeed soon. Our squads have been sent to various places in and outside state “ said Angul SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra.
The additional director general of police, crime branch, Santosh Kumar Upadhyaya who visited the branch and interacted with district police officers as well as bankers said the loot at Angul seems to be the handiwork of an inter-state gang while the bank robbery at Nayagarh district is one of some local criminals.
We are investigating all angles and hopefully we will crack the case, he said. The gramya bank branch in Nayagarh district was looted on the same day and over one crore taken away by the armed miscreants.
