Tragedy struck the staff of a private company when the bus in which they were travelling came in contact with a high tension wire in Roorkee on Tuesday morning. One female worker was killed and six others sustained serious burn injuries.

Taking action against the electricity department staff, the Uttarakhand government ordered the suspension of a junior engineer.

According to reports, a private bus carrying the staff of Alps company was passing through Haddiwala when the vehicle came in contact of a live wire. Electric current spread through the bus creating panic among the passengers and they jumped out of the vehicle. The bus later caught fire.

Six other workers sustained burn injuries and were being treated in Roorkee.

Taking cognisance of the incident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat issued orders of immediate suspension of the concerned Junior Engineer with immediate effect. The chief minister issued instructions to constitute a probe committee under the direction of the chief engineer to investigate the matter and to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
