Five Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel lost their lives after an AN-32 aircraft crashed while landing in Assam’s Jorhat district on Saturday, June 13.

The co-pilot has survived the accident and is currently undergoing medical treatment.

The incident took place when the aircraft was landing at the IAF’s airbase in the Rowriah area. Senior IAF officials have rushed to the area.

In a statement shared on X, the IAF wrote, “An IAF An-32 aircraft met with an accident during a routine sortie today at approximately 1000h at Jorhat, Assam. Crash site management and initial enquiries are on at this time. IAF requests everyone to refrain from speculation till preliminary results are not in.”

It added, “IAF deeply regrets the loss of lives and stands firmly with the bereaved families in this time of grief.”

Further, the Indian Air Force stated that more details will be shared regarding the incident soon.

In an earlier post on social media, the IAF noted that a court of inquiry is being constituted to ascertain the cause of the accident.
