An FIR has been registered at Baruipur police station against Bengali actor Sreelekha Mitra and three other individuals over alleged social media posts linked to the Baruipur rape-murder case.

Roy had accused the four of spreading provocative content that allegedly fuelled public anger and led to incidents of violence following the crime.

Soon after reports of the FIR surfaced, actor Mitra took to social media to deny the allegations.

In a statement, she said she had “just learnt” that an FIR had been lodged against her for allegedly provoking unrest over the Baruipur incident.

Rejecting the accusations, the actor said she categorically denied making any provocative statement or engaging in any activity that could incite violence.

She demanded that those making the allegations produce specific evidence showing where, when and how she had made such remarks.

“If anyone claims that I made such comments or took any such action, they should place clear and credible evidence before the public,” Mitra wrote.

She added that she stood by the truth and would continue to express her views responsibly and within the framework of the law. She also urged people to refrain from spreading confusion through what she described as baseless allegations.

According to police sources, the FIR names Mitra, Ali, Maity and the digital news platform. The complaint alleges that their social media posts contributed to an atmosphere that triggered violence, including incidents of mob assault and vandalism.

Speaking to the media after filing the complaint, Roy alleged that misleading narratives circulated online after the minor’s body was recovered had created the impression that members of a particular community, the RSS or the BJP were responsible for the crime.

He claimed that the alleged misinformation contributed to violence in the area, including attacks on individuals, damage to railway property and arson. Roy further alleged that such content was creating communal divisions and influencing young minds.
