Lady doctor slapped by Shinde Sena corporator at Mumbai civic hospital resigns: Report

Shrushti Baviskar, the lady doctor at Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation’s Shastri Nagar hospital, who was assaulted by Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre, has reportedly resigned.

Dr Baviskar’s resignation comes a day after her colleague Vaibhav Salunkhe, quit his job and left the city due to fears of Mhatre’s goons.

“Goons are watching us, and I have already left the city. They are very dangerous people,” Salunkhe was quoted as saying by NDTV after his resignation.

However, KDMC (Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation) Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deepa Shukla claimed that neither Salunkhe nor Baviskar has submitted his or her resignation.

“They are absent without notice,” Dr Shukla alleged amid reports of their resignations.

Earlier on Tuesday, Shinde Sena Corporator Ramesh Mhatre had allegedly assaulted a lady doctor and nurses at Mumbai’s Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation’s Shastri Nagar Hospital.

The assault was captured on the hospital’s CCTV camera, footage of which went viral on social media, triggering massive public outrage.

After the issue was raised by the Opposition, Mhatre was arrested by the police.

According to police, he was booked under Sections 132 and 121(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The purported CCTV footage shows Mhatre slapping a lady doctor while she was talking to someone on the phone.

Mhatre is also seen grabbing a hospital staff member by the collar before his supporters took over and thrashed him brutally.
