Union Home Minister Amit Shah issued a series of directives aimed at strengthening law and order, border security and anti-infiltration measures after a high-level meeting with senior officers of the West Bengal Police, Kolkata Police and central paramilitary forces on Sunday.
Shah reviewed the state’s law and order situation, including incidents of political and communal violence, and assessed security arrangements in Naxal-affected regions.

The nearly 90-minute meeting was attended by Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

The Union Home Minister directed officials to further strengthen the Special Task Forces (STF) of both the state and Kolkata Police and stressed the need to enhance 1,930 police service-related functions.
He also called for the formulation of a dedicated Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to deal with infiltration along the international border.
Shah underlined the Centre’s “zero-tolerance” policy towards infiltration and asked officials to improve coordination between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the state police.
He also advocated expanding the BSF’s operational control within a 50-kilometre belt along the Bangladesh border.
Senior officials of the BSF and CRPF attended the meeting and were instructed to intensify coordination with the state police on border management and internal security.
The meeting also reviewed efforts to curb drug and human trafficking, with state and Kolkata Police presenting detailed data on recent cases.
Shah sought updates on the progress of border fencing along the Bangladesh frontier and discussed the need to strengthen education and healthcare infrastructure in border areas.
The Union Home Minister also called for fresh discussions on CBI investigations into certain specific cases.
