Several health professionals under the banner of Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Monday held a hunger strike from dusk to dawn (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) at IMA House in support of their demands including deterrent punishment for violence against doctors.
Dr K K Aggarwal, National President, IMA said, “IMA has been protesting peacefully against the atrocities faced by the medical profession. We have been asking for the implementation of the recommendations of the inter-ministerial committee and other demands for the past one year, but they have not been implemented up till now.”
“Through peaceful protest, we request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resolve our issues in a time-bound manner. The increasing incidences of violence against doctors, criminal prosecution of doctors and uncapped compensation, in particular, are all serious issues and need his immediate intervention and cannot wait for routine consideration.”
