A pre-Monsoon shower warning has been issued for West Bengal starting 31 May. Weather broadcaster Skymet Weather said that a trough is expected form from Uttar Pradesh to Manipur across West Bengal bringing rains in the eastern part of the country.

A trough is a narrow channel of relatively low atmospheric pressure.

“During this time, easterly winds will start feeding moisture over the state leading to cloud formation,” said Skymet Weather.

Skymet said that rain spells can vary from heavy to very heavy spells. Inclement weather conditions are likely to last till 2 April though scatter showers will continue.

The state has remained dry for the last 24 hours.
