Haryana government has decided that one-time grant of Rs 21,000 would be provided to all families whose third girl child is born on or after August 24, 2015, irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, income and number of sons, under the ‘Aapki Beti, Hamari Beti’ scheme.

An official spokesperson said that the scheme would be implemented in both rural and urban areas of the state. It would cover the first girl child born in the families belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, and second, twin or multiple girls born on or after January 22, 2015 in any family in the state satisfying the eligibility criteria. The third girl child born on or after August 24, 2015 in any family in the state satisfying the eligibility criteria would also be covered by this scheme, he added.
According to the official information, the "LADLI" scheme was merged into the ‘Aapki Beti, Hamari Beti’ scheme and second, twin or multiple girls born on or before January 21, 2015 in any family in the state satisfying the eligibility criteria, would be paid benefits as per the rules of the erstwhile "LADLI" scheme.
A notification to this effect has been issued. In February this year, the state has witnessed an improvement in the sex ratio touching mark of 938 girls per 1,000 boys.

The 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' (BBBP) scheme was also launched from Haryana's Panipat on January 22, 2015 with an aim to prevent gender biased sex selective elimination, ensure survival, protection, education and participation of girl child.
