Delhi government will confer lifetime achievement award on noted classical vocalist Abdul Rashid Khan and renowned contemporary artist Anjolie Ela Menon.
The awards will be conferred on August 11 by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at an event to be organised by Sahitya Kala Parishad.
Rashid Khan, who turned 106 this year, is a Hindustani classical vocalist of Gwalior gharana. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan this year and is the oldest person to have received this honour. He was earlier conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi award.
Anjolie Ela Menon is India’s leading contemporary artist whose work is renowned internationally.
Menon is recognised as one of the foremost Indian artists of her generation and was awarded the Padma Shri in recognition of her distinguished contribution in the sphere of arts.
The award ceremony, which is being presented by the Department of Art, Culture and Language will see Rashid Khan giving a vocal recital.
An exhibition of Menon’s paintings will also be a part of the event.
