Delhi Police launches ‘Drug-Free Campus’ initiative; Delhi Minister Ashish Sood calls it strong foundation for a safe tomorrow.

South-West District Police today unveiled the Drug-Free Campus Initiative under the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. As a significant measure towards a healthier and substance-free Delhi, the initiative aims to spread awareness, maximise prevention, and ensure early intervention to build a safe, informed, and resilient educational environment.

The program was formally launched in association with the Social Development Foundation (SDF) at Sri Venkateswara College, the first institution to join this movement.

The inaugural event was marked by the presence of Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood. He was the Chief Guest at the launch. Calling it a strong foundation for a safe, positive, and responsible tomorrow for the coming generations, the Delhi Minister said that the students are being connected with awareness, self-confidence, and positive thinking through the Drug Free Campus initiative.

Deepak Purohit, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, New Delhi Range, and Olympic Medalist and Padma Shri awardee Ms. Mirabai Chanu were present at the event.

New Delhi Range, Joint CP Deepak Purohit said, ”On behalf of the Delhi Police Week, we have launched the Drug Free Campus campaign from Venkateswara College. We are very proud to announce that Venkateswara College has named itself as a Drug Free Campus.”

Under the initiative, the preventive education will be integrated into campus culture through life-skills development modules, peer leadership programs, and a Campus Ambassador program.

Also, the Green Ribbon Initiative and a QR-based confidential support system were formally launched at the event. While the Green Ribbon represented hope, responsibility and positive change, anchored on the pillars of awareness, prevention, empowerment, community participation, and a sustainable drug-free future, the QR mechanism was introduced to enable students to access information and seek assistance anonymously and securely, ensuring stigma-free support.
