4 armed woman Maoists killed in encounter with Dist Voluntary Force

Four armed women Maoist cadre were killed in an encounter with District Voluntary Force (DVF)near Dokra ghat area of Narayanpatna block here on Sunday night.

Acting on actionable intelligence inputs, the DVF launched a combing operation as they suspected Maoist movement in the area.

The red rebels were reportedly holding a camp and when they sensed the arrival of the police, they started firing indiscriminately to try and escape.

The exchange of fire resulted in the death of four women cadre, said K V Singh, SP of Koraput district. He said one of them has been identified as Ungi alias Harati of Chhattisgarh who was carrying a reward of Rs 4 lakh on her head.

The other bodies identified so far are Rubina and Kumari. The identity of the other body is yet to be ascertained. Arms and ammunition were seized from the spot.

These include INSAS rifles, SLR and 303 rifles, 170 rounds of ammunition, cash and other material, he said.

The ultras were of the rank of area commander in the left extremist organisation’s Andhra-Odisha Special Zonal Committee and were led by Aruna, an area commander, who managed to escape, said DGP Dr R P Sharma.

The DVF and SOG jawans are on a combing operation in the area, said police sources.
