Incessant rain brought by the low pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and the associated cyclonic circulation resulted in waterlogging on railway tracks in Sealdah division today. The divisional railway took a host of measures to maintain normal train operations across the division on account of inclement weather conditions. According to the divisional railway office, there was excessive downpour throughout the division today that caused waterlogging at Baruipur, Barrackpore, Barasat, Titagarh and Guma. Given the situation, the engineering department, signal telecom, operating and other departments of the division worked on 24×7 basis to cope with the challenges of incessant rainfall and subsequent waterlogging. During heavy rains, patrolling was done while critical sections or locations were under close watch and loco pilots’ observations were taken to assess and overcome the crisis. Random checking of stabling of load in yards, stations, good sheds, points and crossings were done.
The continuous showers resulted in slow movement of trains. However, no trains were cancelled due to overnight patrolling and disaster management by the department teams of the division, according to the divisional railway office.
