Sealdah division of the Eastern Railway has undertaken a massive drive against the use of fire and inflammable articles at railway premises. According to the divisional railway, a few days back a fire took place at an unauthorized shop at Netra station gutting multiple shops. In yet another incident of similar kind, an unauthorized shop located on platform number one at Halisahar railway station caught fire. The incident occurred at around 10.30pm on 16 February bringing to the fore the potential threat to the safety of passengers and railway property.

In the backdrop, Sealdah division is organizing a regular awareness campaign to raise awareness about passenger safety through personal counselling by railway officials, distribution of safety leaflets, community outreach, public announcements, use of print and social media so as to educate people about the dangers being posed to passenger safety by unauthorized shops.

Furthermore, the divisional railway manager of Sealdah, Deepak Nigam, urged the passengers to exercise caution and refrain from using fire and inflammable articles at stations and in close proximity to railway tracks to prevent fire incidents
