It's official now, the Trinamul Congress (TMC) party has split, with the majority of 59 out of 80 MLAs opting out of the party founded and led by Mamata Banerjee.

There was tension at Guskara civic town in East Burdwan last evening after an elderly man accompanied his married daughter to the police to lodge a complaint of rape against an influential local Trinamul Congress leader.
However, based on the woman’s statement, the police registered a case of molestation under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused, Kenaram Das Bairagya. The police arrested Kenaram within an hour from his residence.

According to the complaint, the 28-year-old housewife was returning to her parental home at Majhergram near Guskara town, through the Ausgram forest area, on a Toto (electric cart) last night to celebrate Bhai Phonta. She alleged that Kenaram attacked her when she was nearing her parents’ house and attempted to drag her into the woods with ulterior motives. She managed to escape and later informed her family.

The victim’s father insisted that the police register a case of rape against Kenaram, but the police declined.
The woman underwent a medical examination at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital on Thursday.
